Our Market Garden which is based at High Market in Ashington has been transformed!
When we took over the garden, it had been untended for some time and therefore
required considerable care and attention. Volunteers have helped clear the orchard
area, weeded raised planting boxes, cleared the greenhouse and poly tunnel ready
for seed growing and preparation and helped with general maintenance. The main
orchard and planting area have been cleared and our first crop of produce has been
harvested! The garden provides a tranquil place to work and is very therapeutic!
If you have ‘green fingers’ and would like somewhere quiet to escape, spend a
few rewarding hours and grow your own vegetables, we would love to hear from you.
Please use the details on our ‘Contact Us’ page.
Pictures in the gallery below show the amazing transformation of the allotment and
the hard work of our garden project volunteers. We are already reaping the benefits
of this project with an abundance of fresh, home grown vegetables and salad ingredients
which are used in our soups and meals.
WHAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP & MAINTAIN THE SITE
We still require donations of garden tools and other items to enable us to continue
to develop this project. If you have any gardening items you no longer need please
let us know and we will arrange to collect them. Alternatively, items can be dropped
off at Ashington Life Centre on Station Road, Ashington.
Items needed include gardening tools, wheelbarrows, plant pots, seed trays, seeds,
weed killer, propagators, water barrels, heaters for the poly tunnel and greenhouse,
compost, topsoil etc.
We are also very grateful for donations towards the cost of petrol for the mowers
and strimmers used to keep the garden under control.
